Online GED classes in South Africa: how to choose
How online GED classes and programmes work in South Africa, what to look for in a provider, and how GED Learning Hub's self-paced courses are set up.

Short answer: Online GED classes prepare you for the four official GED tests; they do not replace them. You study online, then book and write the official tests through GED.com at a test centre. A good online programme covers all four subjects in order, gives you plenty of marked practice, and is honest about what the GED can and cannot do in South Africa.
How online GED preparation works
No school or company in South Africa awards the GED. Only GED Testing Service does, after you pass its four tests. An online GED class or programme is preparation: lessons, practice and feedback to get you ready.
That means you can choose any preparation that suits your budget and schedule, and you can change if it is not working. The official test fees are paid separately to GED Testing Service; see how much the GED costs.
What to look for
- Full coverage of all four tests, built around what the GED actually assesses.
- Practice in the real question formats: dropdown, drag and drop, fill in the blank and select an area, not only multiple choice.
- Marked practice with explanations, so you learn from every wrong answer.
- Timed practice exams before you spend money on GED Ready.
- A way to try before you pay.
- Clear pricing with no monthly debit order you forget about.
- Honesty about university recognition in South Africa. Be careful of anyone who promises that the GED gets you into any university.
How GED Learning Hub is set up
- Self-paced. Study when it suits you, on a phone or a computer. There are no fixed class times.
- All four subjects. 214 lessons in total: Mathematical Reasoning (72 lessons), Science (45), Social Studies (52) and Reasoning Through Language Arts (45).
- Step by step. Each short lesson has worked examples and ends with a lesson check that is marked straight away. You move on when you have understood it.
- Practice that changes. Many questions use fresh numbers each time, so you practise the method instead of memorising answers.
- Practice exams in every subject, including the Language Arts essay.
- Pay per subject, once. Choose one to four subjects. Each gives a year of access, and there is no subscription.
You can try a free sample lesson in every subject without creating an account, and see courses and pricing.
Is self-study right for you?
Self-paced study suits adults who work, parents, and anyone who cannot attend classes at set times. It asks for one thing: a regular routine. Three or four fixed study sessions a week works better than waiting for free time. Our GED study plan shows how to set this up.
Common questions
Can I do the GED online in South Africa?
You can prepare completely online. The official GED tests are then booked through GED.com and written at an authorised test centre.
Are online GED classes accredited?
Preparation courses are not what gives you the credential. The GED is awarded only by GED Testing Service after you pass its four official tests, whichever way you prepared.
How much do online GED classes cost?
Prices differ between providers. GED Learning Hub charges a once-off price per subject for a year of access, with lower prices per subject when you take more than one. Official test fees are separate.
